There are opportunities to take part in all productions on and off stage.
If you are interested in appearing in a show we will notify you when auditions and rehearsals start.
For those of you who are interested by backstage or preparation of the production these are the areas you may be interested in.
Set Building and creating/collecting props
Set building usually takes place on a saturday morning (sometimes all day) and include carpentry and painting.
Depending on the production some props can be purchased from shops but more unusual props often need making - this takes a bit of ingenuity and inventivness.
Prompt
The prompt is a vital role. The prompter needs to attend all rehearsals to learn not the script but the way it is played. You then sit to one side during all performances following the show and stepping in with a quick prompt when/if necessary.
Wardrobe
We do hire a percentage of costumes and use some from a basic stock. We are always looking out for people willing to make the costumes. However, someone needs to organise this, taking measurments, checking the script to find out what is required for each of the cast members sorting out what can be provided and arranging to hire the rest.
Stage Manager & Backstage crew
The stage manager is usually involved from the beginning working with the set builders and often helping with the props at this stage.
The stage manager's main role is to oversee all aspects of production while on stage, working closely with the director, choreographer and music direcrtor
When the show is in final rehearsals and during performance the backstage crew work with the stage manager changing sets and ensuring props are where they should be on stage and then returned to the props table. The props are often organised by one person under the supervision of the stage manager
A runner also works under the supervision of the stage manager, and their role is to make sure cast are ready to go on stage in time.
Front of house
The front of house manager oversees the programme sellers and the stewards. The stewards roll is to make sure that the audience are seated safely and to ensure all aspects of health and safety are covered. They are also in place to moniter the security of the auditorium.
